"Let us remember well, however, that whenever food is thrown out it is as if it were stolen from the table of the poor, from the hungry!"

Pope Francis – 5 June 2013

"The paradox of abundance: there is food for everyone, but not everyone can eat, while waste, excessive consumption and the use of food for other purposes is visible before our very eyes."

Pope Francis – 7 February 2015

“Waste is an insult to society, to the common good and to the economy of any Country. Several solidarity projects are obtaining positive results. It is necessary to extend them, analysing how to intervene with instruments providing them with legal support. Waste reduction is a great public commitment that can be joined by the major players of organised civil society, volunteer workers, non-profit organisations, cooperatives and private enterprises.”

Sergio Mattarella, President of the Italian Republic – 5 June 2015

“By 2030, halve per capita global food waste at the retail and consumer levels and reduce food losses along production and supply chains, including post-harvest losses.”

Sustainable Development Goal 12.3, UN – September 2015

“Food waste is an increasing concern in Europe. The production, distribution and storage of food use natural resources and generate environmental impacts. Discarding food that is still edible increases these impacts, and causes financial loss for consumers and the economy. Food waste also has an important social angle: donation of food that is still edible but that for logistic or marketing reasons cannot be commercialised should be facilitated.”
